Jesus chose you to conquer with Him

God's Hope for Your Heart Header

In Revelation chapter 17, ten mysterious kings rule for a short time, then consolidate their power in the hands of a great beast.  They then rally their forces, all their might and power, and make war upon Jesus and His people.

Not only that, but in this endeavor they are guided and overseen by a cryptic character whose description is as disturbing as it is exotic, “She had a gold cup in her hand filled with everything vile…” and she is “drunk on the blood of the saints…and the witnesses to Jesus” (vv 4, 6)

Where is the hope in this chapter filled with blood and chaos and confusion?  It’s found in one little verse with big implications.

These will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will conquer them because He is Lord of lord and King of kings.  Those with Him are called and elect and faithful.  (Revelation 17:14)

You see, if you are in Christ (WITH Jesus) that means you’ve been called by God!  He has desired to draw you to Himself because He wants to show you His love.

Not only that, but you are elect, chosen specifically before you were even born, because God wants to give you His salvation.

Finally, this passage shows that if you’re in Christ, you are faithful, able to stick with Jesus because He is sticking with you, giving you the power to be faithful to Him.

What does this all mean in a practical way?  It means that no matter what your enemy the devil throws at you, you can be confident in the hope of this truth.

Jesus chose you to conquer with Him.

You can overcome in Christ today

God's Hope for Your Heart Header

“Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that He can open the scroll and its seven seals.”  (Revelation 5:5)

What is that unsolvable problem in your life?

What is that question that can’t be answered, that stronghold that can’t be broken, that obstacle that can’t be overcome?

Weep and worry no more: Jesus can overcome it!

Jesus can break it!

Jesus can answer it!

Weep no more today, friend, for the Lion of Judah has already conquered the foe you face, and He is on your side.

God gives life to those who are strong in Him

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.  To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.  (Revelation 2:7)

God is a God of victory, so His people can be, too.  God sent His Son as the ultimate overcomer, so His people can overcome, too.

As Jesus persisted and resisted sin through the power of the Holy Spirit, so we who follow Him can do the same, and not only can we stand firm in the Spirit, we must!

Through Christ, God has given you power and authority to conquer anything Satan throws at you.  So, as you receive His strength by faith today, you can take courage in this truth.

God gives life to those who are strong in Him.

Jesus is your power to overcome

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.  (1 John 4:4)

False doctrine and deceitful spirits are constantly at war against the children of God.

There is a battle raging at all times for control of your mind and power over your heart.  Sometimes it may feel like nothing is coming against you at all, and other times, as if all hell is breaking loose.

Have you been there?  Have you felt the discouragement and distraction, the confusion and concern, the doubt, the defensiveness, the fear?

Take heart, Jesus wants to give you victory!

No matter what spiritual forces come against you, if you’re in Christ, God has provided an even greater spiritual power within you.  It is not just a set of principles, but the active presence of Jesus Christ living in you that will enable you to overcome lies with truth and despair with joy.

So, when you feel the heat rising and the battle intensifying in your life, may you be strengthened by this truth.

Jesus is your power to overcome.

–Pastor Phillip

Jesus is your triumph

God’s Hope For Your Heart from 2 Corinthians 2

JESUS IS YOUR TRIUMPH

But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere.  (2 Corinthians 2:14)

“Triumphal procession.”  Think about that image for a moment…

You were not designed to walk around with your head down in defeat, but to stand tall in Christ.

You were not saved so you could spend your life struggling to get by, but so you could be an example of God’s grace to His children.

When you are following Christ, it’s not a procession to a funeral, but a parade for the faithful, marching ever onward to victory for the glory of God.

You see, because God is glorified by how He cares for His people, you can rejoice in this hopeful truth: Jesus is your triumph!

God will deliver you from despair

God’s Hope for Your Heart from 2 Corinthians 1

GOD WILL DELIVER YOU FROM DESPAIR

For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself.  Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death.  But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.  He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us.  On Him we have set our hope that He will deliver us again.  (2 Corinthians 1:8b-10)

Some say God will never give us more than we can handle.  Yet, here we see the Apostle Paul, burdened not to the limit of his strength, but beyond it.  Why?

If God only gave us what we could handle, then we could handle it without His help.  There would be no need for supernatural strength, no occasion for divine intervention.

God loves you too much for that.

God loves you so much that He will allow circumstances into your life that will stretch you beyond what you can bear.  He will bring trials your way that will be more than you can handle.  And, every time you find yourself in that place of pressure, He will give to you His power to overcome!

God is the deliverer of His people.  He loves to show His glory by supernaturally saving His children.  He loves to bless with strength all of His people who struggle and to come through for them in their hour of need.

That means if you’re in Christ, He loves to come through for you, and He will.

No matter what struggle you’re facing today, hang in there and rest in the hope of this truth: God will deliver you from despair.

Opposition is a gateway to God’s power in your life

God’s Hope for Your Heart from 1 Corinthians 16

OPPOSITION IS A GATEWAY TO GOD’S POWER IN YOUR LIFE

But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, for a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.  (1 Corinthians 16:8-9)

Opportunities and opposition often go hand in hand.  When a door is opened to do great things for the Kingdom, the enemy takes notice and sends a counterattack.

Yet, it is in precisely those times that the power of God has the most opportunity to shine!

Anyone can move forward if there is no challenge.  Anyone can do things that require only natural effort.

However, only the children of God can truly have victory against great opposition.  Only God’s people can walk in supernatural strength against impossible odds.

Are you discovering there are adversaries arrayed against you as you work to build the Kingdom?  Rejoice!  God is opening a door for you to receive greater power to overcome.

Are you encountering difficulties as you seek to follow Christ?  Rejoice!  He is making a way for you that will stretch you past your natural capacity and open you up to His supernatural strength.

When you find yourself weary in the midst of the battle, press on and take heart in the hope of this truth: opposition is a gateway to God’s power in your life.

God is stronger than your struggle

Scripture Notes on Psalm 93

The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring.
Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty.
(Psalm 93:3-4)

Think of the storm surge of a hurricane. Think of the tidal wave of a typhoon. Think of the rising waters of an unseasonal thunderstorm that just won’t quit.

Do you ever have troubles that feel like that? Ever find yourself in a season of sorrow that just won’t quit, facing a struggle that keeps knocking you flat on your back or making you fall your face?

Here’s good news: God is stronger than that!

Maybe you feel you can’t overcome this issue, but God can.

Maybe you feel you can’t make it through this season, but God can.

Maybe you feel you can’t handle this trial, or come out of this depression, or break this addiction, but God can.

Even if your problems look as vast as the ocean and as unstoppable as the tides, find hope in this truth.

God is stronger than your struggle.

-Pastor Phillip

From Head to Foot

Jesus has victory over all things, but do you?

And He put all things under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. -Ephesians 1:22-23

As the Church of Jesus Christ, we certainly tend to do a good job proclaiming that He is Lord of all
things, has triumphed over all things, and has overcome all things.

The question is, do we also realize that as the body of Christ, we as the Church are also called “triumphant” and “victorious”, with all things “under our feet?” Good news: WE ARE!

Scripture says that the Church is the means by which Christ fills the earth with His goodness, and as we carry out this mission, we can walk in His victory and our victory, too. Indeed, that’s why we’re here.

May you walk in the victory of Christ today!
