God’s Hope for Your Heart from Psalm 4
GOD WANTS TO GIVE YOU GOOD SLEEP
In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)
Sleep can be hard to come by sometimes, especially when our hearts are anxious.
Do you know the feeling, that restlessness that keeps you awake all through the night wondering, worrying, waiting for a rest that never comes?
God has something better for you!
There are certainly practical steps you should take if you’re missing out on sleep: avoid too much caffeine, don’t stare at a screen right before bed, have a nighttime routine, etc. However, here in Psalm 4 we see a vital key to the good nights we all need: the peace of God.
As you do whatever practical things you can to improve your sleep hygiene, remember to meditate on the goodness of God. Focus on His kind faithfulness in your past. Dwell on His perfect sufficiency for your present. Trust in His gracious provision for your future.
When you do this, your heart will be settled and you will discover hope as you rest in this truth: God wants to give you good sleep.
