God’s Hope for Your Heart from Matthew 12
JESUS CAN FILL YOUR EMPTINESS OF SOUL
“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.” (Matthew 12:43-45)
Sometimes when we read the Bible, it can seem so dramatic or fantastic that we feel it’s not quite relevant to us.
Case in point, not too many people in the modern world can say they have had quite this level or type of experience with the demonic. Here’s the thing, though: this principle isn’t just about spirits, it’s also about sin.
All of us have had those things and seasons in our lives that are not pleasing to God, and while they may or may not have been quite as dramatic as this, they all made us broken inside.
Here’s what’s so important about this passage, then. If all you do is remove something bad but don’t replace it with something good, you’re simply making room for something worse.
That’s why when Jesus changes your life, it’s not just so He can empty you of your darkness and sin.
It’s so He can fill the empty space with His presence, power and love.
May you trust Him with your whole heart today and let Him push aside anything dark as He replaces it with His glorious light. As you open up to Him, hope will empower you as you experience this truth: Jesus can fill your emptiness of soul.
