All God asks for is obedience

God’s Hope for Your Heart from Luke 1

ALL GOD ASKS FOR IS OBEDIENCE

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.  (Luke 1:1-4)

It’s easy to look at “super Christians” and feel like they are doing great things for God.

It’s easy to look at preachers and worship leaders, book writers and ministry starters, conference speakers and media personalities and feel like they are making an impact, but you just can’t be that original.

But God doesn’t need originality, just obedience.

Luke lived in a world where there were already plenty of stories about Jesus.  There were already other people sharing the good news.  By human standards, there wasn’t necessarily a need for another record of Jesus’ life.  Luke’s idea simply wasn’t that original.

But God doesn’t need originality, just obedience… and look what came out of the obedience of Luke.

Maybe you feel like you don’t have original ideas to grow the Kingdom, or original opportunities to bless people in Jesus’ name.  Maybe you feel like it’s all been done before, and who are you to think you have something new to add?

But God doesn’t need originality, just obedience.

May you take action today and move forward on what God has called you to do, no matter how “unoriginal” it may feel.  And, as you listen and obey, watch as He brings great things out of your obedience, as you trust in the hope of this truth: All God asks for is obedience.
