God works miracles through ordinary things

God’s Hope for Your Heart from Luke 2

GOD WORKS MIRACLES THROUGH ORDINARY THINGS

In those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered…And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David.  (Luke 2:1, 3-4)

Joseph was probably not happy about the census.

Here it was, another example of some bigshot bureaucrat making life difficult for the common people, not caring about the expense or the inconvenience.

But God was preparing a miracle.

Caesar Augustus was just doing what government leaders do, but God was preparing a miracle.

Joseph and Mary were just doing what the law requires —like you’re supposed to— but God was preparing a miracle.

Centuries of prophecies were about to be fulfilled and all of human history was about to be forever changed, and God was putting all the pieces into place, but the pieces weren’t spectacular.

They were ordinary.

Maybe your life feels like that, just ordinary.  Nothing really changes.  Nothing spectacular really happens.  Maybe God doesn’t have a great plan for your life after all…but maybe He does.

As you go about the ordinary details of your life, may you take heart and find hope in this simple truth:  God works miracles through ordinary things.
