Jesus is your resurrection

God’s Hope for Your Heart on Easter Sunday

JESUS IS YOUR RESURRECTION

Easter is the time we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

Often we focus on the words of the angel to the women who were looking for Jesus’ body, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here! For He has been resurrected, just as He said.” (Matthew 28:5b-6)

These are good words, needed words, but maybe sometimes what we need most are not just words about Jesus, but words from Jesus Himself.

Consider this…

Jesus had many followers, but only few whom He considered true friends.  These were people who cared for Him in a special way, and for whom He cared a great deal in return.  Three in particular were a set of siblings named Lazarus, Martha, and Mary.

Then Lazarus died.

Maybe this Easter season, you know what it’s like to experience death and loss.  Maybe the death of a loved one, or the death of a dream.  Maybe the loss of a friendship, or the loss of hope itself.

If you know what it’s like to wrestle with discouragement, and especially if you’re hurting now, look at what Jesus told Martha in her darkest moment of grief and loss.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.”  (John 11:25a, emphasis added)

This Easter, as you remember the reality that Jesus rose from death, don’t miss this amazing truth.

Resurrection is not just an event, it’s a person.  It’s not just a past remembrance, it’s a present reality for you and for me.

Whatever loss or death you face, may you have hope for greater things to come because of this profound truth: Jesus is your resurrection.
