God wants to give you a legacy

God’s Hope for Your Heart from Psalm 45

GOD WANTS TO GIVE YOU A LEGACY

In place of your fathers shall be your sons; you will make them princes in all the earth.  (Psalm 45:16)

All throughout Scripture we see the theme of “passing it on.”

Moses leaves the Ten Commandments to teach the children of Israel how to follow God.

David leaves instructions for his son Solomon to build the temple.

Jesus gives His Great Commission to His disciples and sends the Holy Spirit to empower them to complete it.

It is God’s way, the way of all life, to ensure the survival and thriving of the next generation by investing in their success.  This is not just an individual thing, either.  Whole nations and people groups have lasted through the ages because people cared enough to leave behind something worthwhile for those that would follow.

May it be so with us, with you.

Maybe you have children, or maybe you don’t.  Maybe you’re part of a church or organization, or maybe you’re not.  Whatever your situation though, know this.  God designed your life to matter, not just for the moments you’re here on earth, but for generations to come.  He has put people in your life that need your love, your encouragement, your investment in their success.

This means that as you’re willing to reach out beyond yourself in constructive ways, you’re not just doing a nice thing.  You’re doing a godly thing, and paving the way to reap great hope from this long-term truth: God wants to give you a legacy.
