Giving Ourselves

To sing about “giving ourselves” to God is almost silly.

You may indeed sing songs about this idea, but you cannot give yourself fully to a Spirit or an idea, no matter how Holy or wonderful.

Humans are indeed spiritual beings, but we live in physical bodies and cannot (and should not try to) separate the two.  Therefore, we must have something physical to which we give ourselves if we would be fully poured out to God.

This thing is the Church.  In the Church body we give ourselves to each other, sacrificing for one another, and out of the overflow of our love for the Church we give ourselves to the world as a whole.

You cannot truthfully sing of being devoted to God without also living a life devoted to His children, both near and far.

So, how’s it going?
