True Wisdom

“Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become a fool so he can become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God… “ 1 Corinthians 3:18-199.

The Book of Proverbs goes on and on about the benefits of wisdom. Is Paul here contradicting this?

Not at all. Paul is not contradicting the desirability of wisdom; rather he is giving a clarification and a caveat.

The clarification is that the source and foundation of wisdom matter. One man’s wisdom is another man’s folly, but God’s opinion is the one that matters most.

The caveat is that the path to true wisdom is always marked by an admission that what we don’t know far outweighs what we do know.

This is humility, and without it, all the intelligence in the world is just another show.
