The voice that shakes the earth is the one that calms your heart

God’s Hope for Your Heart from Psalm 29

THE VOICE THAT SHAKES THE EARTH IS THE ONE THAT CALMS YOUR HEART

The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
(Psalm 29:4-8)

In many places throughout Scripture we see that God’s voice is great and terrible.  It is full of mighty power and intensity, so much so that when the people of Israel heard it at Mount Sinai, they said to their leader Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, lest we die.”  (Exodus 20:19)

But Jesus changes everything.

When Jesus spoke, His words were like fresh water for thirsty souls.  When Jesus spoke, He called out to the lost and the broken, offering healing and salvation and peace.  When Jesus spoke, He said, “I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep,” and, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”  (John 10:11, 27-28)

He wants to speak to you today, too.

The voice of the Lord is still great and powerful, but because of the finished work of Jesus, it has a special message of peace for all who are in Christ.  Draw near to Him, and don’t be afraid.  Listen for the voice of God today, and you’ll be filled with peace as you discover this truth: the voice that shakes the earth is the one that calms your heart.
