Small Thoughts

On Life

I believe the true value of a life
is not measured by what a person achieved for themself,
but by how much of themself they were willing to contribute to others.

–––––

The greatest measure of someone’s accomplishment isn’t how far they’ve GOTTEN;
It’s how far they’ve COME.

–––––

Hope without an anchor is just wishful thinking.

–––––

To have what you truly want in life,
you must become a person capable of both achieving and sustaining it.

–––––

Remember, the resistance is often the strongest
when you’re closest to the goal.

–––––

In the end, True Success isn’t measured by the money you make,
but by the lives you make better along the way.

–––––

You don’t need to STAND OUT to be significant.

Though the clouds may be thick,
and the night may be dark,
the stars are all still there.

–––––

You ARE enough and you HAVE enough
to be and do everything for which you were created.

–––––

I don’t have to USE other people to validate my worth.
I can use my worth to HELP other people feel validated themselves.

–––––

If you give yourself permission to GIVE UP,
you’ll never actually give yourself a chance to SUCCEED.

–––––

Sometimes I reflect on things I said, though and wanted twenty years ago and I think,
“How silly.”
I wonder what I’ll think twenty years from now.

–––––

The greatest benefit of college
isn’t the degree you get, but rather,
the degree to which you change in the process.

ON FAITH

Jesus was a “friend of sinners” because there’s a difference between accepting a person & approving a lifestyle.
Don’t let zeal for avoiding the second thing keep you from embracing the first.

–––––

Who you really ARE is revealed by what you regularly DO.

–––––

Conviction addresses your BEHAVIOR. Condemnation attacks your IDENTITY.

Conviction brings sadness about what you’ve DONE. Condemnation brings shame about who you ARE.

–––––

The more deeply I believe God’s love FOR me, the more readily I obey His commands TO me.

–––––

David believed in God, because God first believed in him.

–––––

To truly make a difference, a sermon must be more weighty than the problems the people brought in with them.

–––––

Repentance is not drumming up your strength to do the right thing;

It’s discovering the emptiness of sin and the delight of Christ Himself.

–––––

Service TO God does not automatically mean relationship WITH Him.
(ref: 1 Samuel 3:1, 7)

–––––

The test of a true Christian is not the morality of their actions, but the focus of their heart.
However, the test of a heart’s focus is always the action it produces.

PRAYER: God responds not to arrogant, presumptuous demands, but to humble, repentant petitions.
(re: Nehemiah 9)

–––––

A crimson thread is running through
The things I’ve done, the things I’ll do.
It binds me to the risen Lord;
His saving blood, the scarlet cord.

–––––

KINGDOM vision says, “I don’t care where you go on Sunday morning, but how well you love and serve the rest of the week.”

–––––

Underneath all our traditions
& methods
& sound systems
& websites
& videos,
if it doesn’t SERVE people for the glory of GOD,
it means nothing.

–––––

Disappointment is often God’s way of telling us we should be doing something else.

–––––

One of the beauties of praying with others is that whether giving or receiving, you know you’re not alone.

–––––

If read only with the mind,
the Bible becomes a book of duty.
If read also with the heart,
it can be a book of desire.
