Here are steps 3 and 4.
🏆 3) Recalibrate your REWARD structure.
When you start feeling like you’re putting IN more than you’re getting OUT, burnout isn’t far behind, and making or paying yourself more money is NOT the answer.
What most people misunderstand about rewards is that what we want most is almost never the money itself; it’s what the money represents.
Money can represent safety, security or comfort, power, status or group membership, or any one of a number of “deep needs” that drive our behavior.
What this means is that if you want to keep from burning out, make sure you’re ALLOCATING your money in ways that create space for those deeper needs to be met.
Investing in business growth is usually a no-brainer, but no matter how successful your business is over the long term, it won’t matter if you’re too burned out to care.
As you direct your money toward meeting the “deep needs” of you and your team, you’ll be securing not just your future productivity and growth, but also your ability to fully enjoy it.
🙌 4) Invest in supportive COMMUNITY.
There’s an ancient saying from the Bible, “It’s not good for man to be alone,” and psychologists will tell you that no matter your age or gender, this is absolutely true.
While a MAJOR cause of burnout (especially among Millennials) is the lack of supportive community, so many businesses miss the mark in creating the conditions for real community to thrive.
It’s even more difficult for entrepreneurs, who are often either solo practitioners or leaders of remote teams.
Thanks to online communities, masterminds and support networks, there have never been more WAYS for people to connect, but what’s lacking is usually the SKILLS to connect on a deeper level.
So, once you’ve found a PLACE to cultivate community, here are three things you can PRACTICE to get the most benefit from it:
For most people, they may be naturally geared for one or two of these skills, but usually not all three.
However, when you invest in growing your ability to connect and model these practices for your team, you’ll be taking a major step in keeping burnout at bay for good.
